Medical Intervention and Therapeutic Services

The professionals of ASRA carry out assessment of disabling conditions, provide therapeutic services, referral and counseling services to persons with disabilities at ASRA HeadQuarter. Some of these professionals also render their expertise in slum communities adopted by ASRA.

This Sector covers the whole range of the spectrum such as prevention, early detection, therapeutic intervention, awareness raising, family counseling, parents training, home bound programs, regular follow up and monitoring of the home–bound programs, regular follow up by monitoring home visits and referral services to concerned hospitals/ organizations for procurement of aids and assistive devices. Medical intervention through Physiotherapy and Speech therapy is offered to the PwDs living in the adopted slums of ASRA who are regularly visited by a dedicated team of medical professionals, rehab workers, social workers and volunteers who reach out to them and work hand on with the beneficiaries.

  1.  Assessment by Orthopaedic Surgeon: Initially beneficiaries are registered at the registration counter of reception. They are examined by a highly qualified professional Doctor who assesses all the beneficiaries and refers them to concerned departments for therapies, counselling, workshop for fitment of aids and appliances etc.

2. Physiotherapy Department: This department provides services to beneficiaries to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout the lifespan. This includes providing services in circumstances where movement and functional ability are threatened by ageing, injury, disease or environmental factors. This department is equipped with modern electrotherapy and therapy gadgets. 

3. Occupational Therapy Department: This department works with people of all ages, who, because of physical, developmental, social or emotional problems, need specialized treatment, training and assistance in the form of approaches, activities, modification of environment to lead independent productive, activities of daily living (ADL) and satisfactory life style.

4.Speech Therapy Unit: The speech and hearing unit of ASRA provides services to the persons with hearing impairments. The hearing evaluation or hearing test is done in coordination with other Institutes.

5. Prosthetic & Orthotic Workshop: The Prosthetics and Orthotics workshop is providing artificial limbs and supportive aids and appliances either free, or, on subsidized rates to the needy disabled persons.
